I have recently been reading a wonderful book on the history of attempts to drain waters from the Great Lakes. It is called Great Lakes Water Wars, by Peter Annin, published in 2018.
Annin has been following the attempts made by several companies, municipalities, and cities to draw waters off from the lakes for drinking water or sanitary purposes.
